what is the waving octopus?
the short answer: a monogram of my initials. (don't get it?)
the long answer: an allegory.
contrary to my occupation where the ideal is to bludgeon people to death with transparency, my personal projects use compound meaning to hold interpretation back just a moment, to savor and expand the point of realization when understanding erupts on itself like cooling lava.
the highest success I can achieve whether in a poem or a painting is to create complex meaning for the viewer. this might happen through comedy, or
symbolism, or obscene double entendres...whatever gets the point across. though the waving octopus is not the most elaborate of trademarks, it achieves exactly what I set out to do: convey an identity, hold a bit of mystery, and (hopefully) spread a little joy.
